2009 Provost E-Learning Initiative Courses Selected
The Provost E-Learning Initiative seeks to further improve the quality of learning and the learning experience for students, as well as to facilitate the teaching process for faculty. To achieve this, the Provost envisioned a series of course offerings for undergraduate students using pedagogical best practice and transformation of education using information technology.
The purpose is to prepare twenty-first century learners for an increasingly connected and complex global society by implementing practices that involve inquiry, interactivity, collaboration and technology-enriched learning environments. This program also ensures that educational outcomes are maximized with the resources currently available for teaching and learning at UF.
The selection committee for the 2009 Provost E-Learning Initiative has chosen the following 10 proposals to be funded for redesign:
- AEB-2014, Clark: Economic Issues, Food and You
- ARH-2XXX, Westin: Masterpieces of Western Art
- BCH-3025, Borum: Fundamentals of Biochemistry (this was a maybe)
- DIG-2930, Vigilante: A Taste of the Arts; Behind the Scenes
- EIN-4354, Hartman: Engineering Economy
- HSC-3102, Rienzo: Personal and Family Health
- MCB-3020, Ogden: Basic Biology of Microorganisms
- MGF-1106, Keesling: Mathematics for Liberal Arts Majors
- PSY-3213L, Rice: Laboratory Methods in Psychology

The committee felt it was extremely important to select courses that would produce the highest quality online courses possible. The key factors in the committee’s decision were reduced cost of instruction, large student enrollment and potential to increase enrollment.
