AT Computer Labs and Classrooms Updates
In preparation for the 2009-2010 academic year, computers in AT computer labs and classrooms have been upgraded in a number of ways. All iMac computers now allow users to choose either Mac OS X or Windows XP operating system. This new dual-boot technology permits instructors who want to use computers with different operating systems at different times to do so without changing rooms. It also allows classes to be taught entirely with Windows software in any of the three iMac classrooms (Architecture 120, Norman G512, Norman G514i). Output Services for Class Assignments
Does your curriculum require that students prepare print or plot assignments? Currently, students must individually pay through University Financial Services for any print or plot services they utilize in Academic Technology CIRCA Computer Classrooms or at the Help Desk Application Support Center. Your department may now arrange to pay, with a Purchase Order, for specific print/plot services for your students’ class assignments. iTunes U @ UF
The Office of Academic Technology along with the Colleges of Business, Pharmacy, Education, and IFAS, is conducting a pilot test of Apple’s iTunes U service. iTunes U is a designated section of Apple’s online iTunes Store which distributes audio and video media files, along with PDF files, over the Internet for viewing on computers and portable media players. Help Desk Announcements
The UF Computing Help Desk had two big changes that took place over the summer. The first was a security measure that took place with the password reset policy. To protect users and comply with security measures, when individuals now call the Help Desk to have their password reset, they must change it within 7 days in myUFL. More »
On-Campus Option for Online Testing
University of Florida faculty may be interested in the newest addition to Academic Technology’s Computer Labs: 86 computers for online testing using the E-Learning course management system are now available! More »

Avoid Getting Your GatorLink Account Disabled
Recently, many UF users have been receiving ‘phishing’ e-mails, requesting that users send their GatorLink username and information via e-mail. According to UF’s IT Security team, “Phishing’ is a scam in which predators attempt to lure people to a fraudulent website, which replicates a seemingly trustworthy website, to obtain personal information such as passwords and login information.” More »
Mediasite
Mediasite is a presentation tool that allows instructors to make live digital recordings of lectures or presentations. Students can view their class presentations over the internet in real-time, or access the presentation as a podcast for viewing at a later date. Additionally, Mediasite allows instructors to simultaneously show media in two windows — for example, PowerPoint slides in one window and a video feed in another window. More »

Emergency Contact Information Launch
Tragic events that have occurred across university campuses in the United States since 2007 have led the University of Florida to implement an expansive emergency notification system. The University has set up a multi-modal approach to notify faculty, staff and students with any emergency notifications. More »
Videoconference Endpoint Certification and Database
Beginning in Spring 2008, Video & Collaboration Services will begin testing and certifying videoconferencing units. The certification process will provide VCS with important details for support, and supply information for a searchable database of videoconference locations at UF. More »
